About Drupal

Why we build on Drupal

Drupal is the open-source platform trusted by governments, universities and large organisations around the world. It handles complex content, lots of sites and strict security, without locking you in. Here's why we use it, and when we'd suggest something else.

Open source

No licence fees, ever

You pay for the work, not the software, so costs don't climb as you add sites or users.

Secure

A dedicated security team

Core and contributed code are reviewed and patched through a clear, public process.

Flexible

Built to connect

Thousands of modules and an API-first core mean it plugs into the systems you already use.

Scales

One platform, many sites

Run one site or hundreds, across brands and languages, from a single codebase.

  1. Many sites, one platform.

Brands, sites and languages, all from one place.

  2. Content that fits you.

Structure and reuse content the way your organisation works.

  3. The right people in control.

    Workflows and permissions built in.

  4. Accessible and secure.

    Strong foundations for compliant services.

  5. Handles the heavy lifting.

Huge volumes of content, users and traffic.

  6. It's yours.

Open source means there are no licence fees, no lock-in.

Is Drupal right for you?

It's a great fit for a lot of organisations, but not all of them. We'll tell you straight if something simpler would do the job.

A good fit when

  • You run lots of sites, brands or languages
  • Your content is complex or highly structured
  • Security, accessibility and compliance really matter
  • You need to connect a CRM, case management or other systems
  • You want to own your platform, with no licence fees

Something simpler might suit when

  • You need a small brochure site, fast
  • There's no one to look after the site after launch
  • The budget only covers a one-off build with no upkeep
  • An off-the-shelf tool already does everything you need

FAQ

Questions we often hear

Drupal has a dedicated security team and a clear process for reporting and fixing issues. We keep your site patched and up to date as part of ongoing support.

Yes. Editors build and update pages from ready-made blocks in a visual editor, so day-to-day changes don’t need a developer. We set up roles and permissions for your team and show everyone how it works before launch.

Drupal itself is free. There are no licence fees, however many sites or users you add. You pay for the build, hosting and ongoing support. Every project is different, so we scope it with you first and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Almost always. Drupal's API-first core and integration modules connect to CRMs, case management, payment and identity systems. Connecting your systems is most of what we do.

Drupal 7 reached its end of life in January 2025, so it no longer gets official security updates. Moving to the latest version is a rebuild rather than an upgrade, but it’s a chance to clean up your content and get a platform that’s easier to run. We’ll plan the move so your site stays live the whole way through.

No. Drupal is open source, so your site, code and content are yours to keep. Any Drupal team can pick it up. We document how everything is built, so you’re never locked in. Most clients stay because the support is good, not because they have to.
